The ShapeMason app
The app does what the CLI does, with a live preview: open files, choose what to make, tune options and watch the result, then convert. It runs on macOS 15 or later, and iPadOS and iOS 18 or later.
The flow
Section titled “The flow”- Add files: drop them on the window, press ⌘O (+ on iPad and iPhone), use Open With, or open them from the Files app. Folders add every supported file inside. See Files and folders.
- Choose what to make in the toolbar (over the preview on iPad and iPhone). Vector art: Sketch (DXF) or Extrude (STEP). Meshes: Mesh to Solid, Split to Bodies, Cross Section or Project Silhouette. Text (sidebar › Set Text): Text Sketch or Extruded Text. The choice is kept per kind of file.
- Tune options in the inspector, grouped, with the less common ones under Advanced. Changed options are marked; right-click one to reset it, or Reset All. Every option: Options.
- See the result as you edit:
- Model: sketches with closed profiles filled and open paths dashed red; solids in 3D, one color per body.
- Picture: the same picture
shapemason previewmakes. - Report: output names, counts, size, notes and warnings, what’s in
the file, and the equivalent
shapemasoncommand with Copy.
- Convert the selection (⌘R) or every file (⇧⌘R). Each file shows ✓, ⚠ (warnings) or ✕. Share (and Show in Finder on a Mac) the results from the report.
If a mesh isn’t watertight, the report offers Repair Mesh and Retry or Import as Surface Body (why).
Profiles
Section titled “Profiles”Save the options you use often as a profile and apply it from the toolbar’s Profiles menu.
Settings
Section titled “Settings”- General: where outputs go, whether to replace existing files without asking, anonymous usage data, the folders ShapeMason can use, and links to the privacy policy, terms of use and these docs.
- Profiles: rename, reorder and delete.
- Quick Action: how to set one up (Automation).
- Acknowledgements: third-party licences.
On a Mac, Settings is its own window (⌘,); on iPad and iPhone, the gear in the sidebar. Help › ShapeMason Help on a Mac opens these docs.
